Weekly Roundup: August 17 – 23

bloody_mess_calendar_print

So, for my first week back I was only able to watch two movies.

  • Grabbers (2012)
  • The Mirror (2014)

These movies were about as far apart as two movies could be:

  • Worth Seeking Out (i.e. Worth Paying For): Grabbers (2012) almost made it to this level, but since there really wasn’t anything original about it, I had to bump it down a level.
  • Worth Watching via Free Streaming: Grabbers (2012)
  • Worth Watching on an International Flight or While Doing Work: Nothing this week.
  • Worth Avoiding and Doing Something Better with Your Time: The Mirror (2014)

Grabbers (2012) made it on the list. Also, I’ve gone back over these movies and decided that some reorganization was need. So, here’s the latest draft:

  1. Housebound
  2. Pontypool
  3. The House at the End of Time
  4. Here Comes the Devil
  5. The Nightmare
  6. Grabbers
  7. Honeymoon
  8. Starry Eyes
  9. Stake Land
  10. The Taking of Deborah Logan

I have orientation at my new job tomorrow and Tuesday. Therefore, don’t expect a full post until Wednesday. That being said, I’m planning on watching the premier of Fear the Walking Dead tonight. I’ll probably write a short post with my (spoiler free) thoughts on this spinoff.

See you tomorrow!

Weekly Roundup: July 20 – 26

bloody_mess_calendar_printIt was a slow start to the week, and in the end I only watched three movies… but, man, what movies they were!

  • Honeymoon (2014)
  • Stake Land (2010)
  • Torment (2013)

All three of these movies are worth see (to some extent). I’m very excited that all three ended up being worth my time:

  • Worth Seeking Out (i.e. Worth Paying For): Honeymoon (2014)
  • Worth Watching via Free Streaming: Stake Land (2010)
  • Worth Watching on an International Flight or While Doing Work: Torment (2013)
  • Worth Avoiding and Doing Something Better with Your Time: Luckily, there was nothing in this category this week

Two out of the three movies I watched this week made it onto my cumulative top-ten list. The exciting thing is that I would actively re-watch any of the movies on this list… okay… maybe not The Canal… so close!

  1. Housebound
  2. Pontypool
  3. Honeymoon
  4. Starry Eyes
  5. The House at the End of Time
  6. Here Comes the Devil
  7. The Nightmare
  8. Stake Land
  9. The Taking of Deborah Logan
  10. The Canal

Next week might be another light week. It’s going to be a busy week, but I will try my best to post every day… even if it’s just something short.

See you tomorrow!

Weekly Roundup: July 6 – 12

bloody_mess_calendar_print I played several games of Netflix Roulette this week. All-in-all, I ended up watching four films:

  • Alyce Kills (2011)
  • Cabin Fever: Patient Zero (2014)
  • Here Comes the Devil (2012)
  • The Taking of Deborah Logan (2014)

Apart from one (really big) miss, most of the films weren’t too bad… therefore, I’ll say it was a good week:

  • Worth Seeking Out (i.e. Worth Paying For): unfortunately, nothing really broke through to this level, though a couple were close.
  • Worth Watching via Free Streaming: Here Comes the Devil (2012), and The Taking of Deborah Logan (2014)
  • Worth Watching on an International Flight or While Doing Work: Alyce Kills (2011)
  • Worth Avoiding and Doing Something Better with Your Time: Cabin Fever: Patient Zero (2014)

Three of the movies I watched this week made it onto my cumulative top-ten list… which, is pretty exciting. It’s starting to come together nicely… though, I still wouldn’t watch the last one the list (Donner Pass)… give it a couple more weeks and it should be pretty strong:

  1. Housebound
  2. Starry Eyes
  3. The House at the End of Time
  4. Here Comes the Devil
  5. The Taking of Deborah Logan
  6. The Canal
  7. Neverlake
  8. Alyce Kills
  9. Bad Milo!
  10. Donner Pass

Next week should be a full week… baring any unscheduled events I should have at least five full posts (possibly six, depending on how motivated I am on Tuesday). The only thing I have planned for definite is that I’ll be seeing The Gallows tomorrow night with a friend, so expect a full write up on Tuesday. I’m trying not to go into it with any preconceived notions… but, since I’m dreading it, I guess I’m failing at my goal. Also, I’m trying to figure out which classic horror movies to revisit. I had a lot of fun with the holy trinity of slasher films (I’m still thinking I’ll do Psycho) but it’s time to move on. At first, I was considering the Evil Dead series, but then thought that it would be better to save them for right before the premier of the new series… so, I’m at a lost… I could always just flip through my DVD binders, but I’m also open to suggestions. See you tomorrow! me
