This was my first official week back and considering the fact that I started on Wednesday, I think I did alright. All-in-all it was an interesting mixed-bag of movie:
- Bleed (2016)
- The Invitation (2015)
- The Windmill (2016)
While one of these movies was barely watchable (*cough* Bleed *cough*) it still didn’t make me question my decision to return to this weird experiment. In fact, considering that I played three rounds of Netflix Roulette and stumbled upon a truly great horror movie, I consider myself fairly lucky. To reinforce my conclusion from Friday’s post, however, I think I need to vary up my posts in order to keep myself sane (or at least postpone my inevitable decent into madness). Therefore, my goal is to avoid having the same two types of post in a row.
Also, I will keep posting these Weekly Roundups and while I will discuss all of the films I watched in the past week, I will only be rating those films that are new to me (more specifically, only those films in the Netflix Roulette and In “Theaters” Now categories). So, with that in mind, here’s how I would rate the three movies from this Week:
- Worth Seeking Out (i.e. Worth Paying For): The Invitation
- Worth Watching via Free Streaming: Nothing here this week
- Worth Watching on an International Flight or While Doing Work: The Windmill
- Worth Avoiding and Doing Something Better with Your Time: Bleed
Just a quick note. The more I think back on The Windmill the less critical I am of it. Therefore, I struggled a bit about where to place it. I ended up going back and reading over my original post. Based on this I included it in the third category… but, in the end, it feels more like it straddles the second and third. I’ll leave it up to you to make your own decisions about whether or not to give it a shot. If you do, though, please let me know what you think. I’m truly curious.
Finally, I decided to restart (reboot?) my top ten list. Mostly because I looked over my old list and can’t remember half of the movies. So, the list is only 3 movies long… I’m also toying with just making an overall list (i.e. not just the top 10 but include everything I’ve watched… starting now) this may prove difficult or somewhat arbitrary. Let me know what you think. Also, just because it’s on the list doesn’t mean I recommend it… it’s just that I haven’t watched 10 movies yet… give it some time.
- The Invitation
- The Windmill
- Bleed
Well that was easy…
